2009 Southwest Regional Technology Symposium

The Scientific & Engineering community in the Southwest Region of the US is holding a Technology Symposium to enlighten the region on various aspects that are of interest in the Wonderful World of Technology. The Symposium will be held in Las Cruces, NM on Thursday, April 16, 2009, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Lunch Guest Speaker: Dr. George Bibel, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Dakota

George Bibel, an invited speaker to FAA Safety seminars, is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of North Dakota. Dr Bibel teaches traditional engineering courses and several innovated new courses featuring engineering disasters. He recently completed the Air Line Pilots Association’s Advanced Accident Investigation Course and has written Beyond the Black Box: The Forensics of Airplane Crashes. The book attempts to teach high school science through unusual airplane accidents and crashes. Beyond the Black Box was favorably reviewed by New Scientist, the New York Times and the Library Journal and was featured in the RAF News. Dr. Bibel also authored a related article appearing in the New York Times, International Herald Tribune and China Daily titled: Listen Up and Fly Right. Dr. Bibel is working on a second book about train wrecks. Professor Bibel is a former NASA Summer Faculty Fellow and NASA researcher.
