Messages to Space Deadline Extended!

The deadline to send your name or your name and a message into space has been extended to October 31, at 5:00 pm. "The anomaly that occurred with the UP Aerospace rocket during the first launch from Spaceport America on September 25 has caused a delay for the next launch and that is the rocket that our payload will be on," said Museum of Space History Marketing Liaison Cathy Harper. "Basically what that means for the museum is that we will have a little bit more time to make sure that everyone who wants their name or message launched, will get the opportunity," continued Harper. "This is a fantastic fundraiser for the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation," commented Mark Santiago, Museum Director, "not to mention a unique opportunity for museum supporters. We appreciate the support of Celestis, Inc., the company who has offered our Foundation space on their payload. It shows that the emerging aerospace industry is committed not only to opening space to the private sector, but they are also committed to giving back to the communities that are impacted by their efforts."

It's easy to participate in the fundraising program and there are two levels of participation. The first level is simply to fly your name and only costs $10 per name. The second level is to fly your name and a message, up to twenty words, and costs $20 per name and message. Each participant will receive a certificate of authenticity identifying the name and or message flown. Program entry forms are available at the reception desks in the museum's main building and at the IMAX theater. Call-in participants are welcome and should call the museum's gift shop at (575) 437-0318. "These certificates of authenticity will make a unique holiday gift," said Harper, "and extending the deadline to October 31 means people have time to make sure everyone on their shopping list gets an out of this world gift this year!"
