Restaurant to Host Science Saturdays

(Alamogordo, New Mexico, August 12, 2021) – The New Mexico Museum of Space History pleased to announce a new partnership with Pizza 9 to bring the museum’s popular Science Saturday program for kids to the White Sands Mall beginning Saturday, August 14. Science Saturday is a monthly presentation by the museum’s education department that offers free hands-on STEM based science programs to kids in grades 2-7. The August 14 program is called “Sculpting the Stars” and shows kids how to create their own glow-in-the-dark constellation while at the same time teaching about the stars. The program runs from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and all building materials are provided free.

“We are very excited about this new opportunity to reach out to more young people in the community and delighted that Pizza 9 has offered to host Science Saturday at their facility,” said Museum Education Director Dave Dooling. “Our goal with programs like these is to reach as many kids as possible and show them that science is fun. With the support of Pizza 9 and the White Sands Mall, we’re able to do just that!”

At Pizza 9, the staff are very excited about Science Saturday, according to Local Store Marketing Manager Max Rascon. Rascon, an alumni of the museum’s Rocketeer Academy summer camp, was the driving force behind the partnership. “The museum is an icon of the community and Science Saturday falls right in line with our corporate mission. Building strong partnerships within the communities where we are, is who we are, and when that partnership helps to educate children then we feel like we’ve done a good job.”

The next Science Saturday program will be held on Saturday, September 18, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Programs are geared towards children in grades 2-7.
